Prediction organizational commitment and organizational procrastination based on Islamic work ethic

Abstract

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between organizational procrastination, organizational commitment and Islamic work ethic; and Does Islamic work ethics predict the organizational procrastination, organizational commitment?
Method: For this purpose, a sample of 300 person of Tehran Payame-Noor university staff were chosen by multistage cluster sampling method. Data was evaluated by organizational procrastination inventory (Saffarinia & Razlighi, 2012), organizational commitment questionnaire (Allen & Meuer, 1991) and Islamic work ethic scale (Ali, 1992). To analyze the data, Pearson correlation coefficient and regression analysis was used.
Results: The results showed that Islamic work ethic has a significant negative correlation with organizational procrastination and positive correlation with organizational commitment aspects. Also Islamic work ethic predicted organizational procrastination and Affective, and normative commitment. Although Islamic work ethic has a significant positive correlation with continuance commitment but did not predict this.
Conclusion: findings emphasize on important role of Islamic work ethic and its positive effects on organizations. This has practical implications for professionals in organizational development interventions for the prevention of employee's procrastination and enhance organizational commitment.
